Meals On Wheels - Goals

The overall goal of the Meals on Wheels program is to enable seniors to remain living at home with maximum self-sufficiency and independence, for as long as possible. Our operating premise is that if we provide high quality, medically and culturally appropriate home delivered nutrition services to who are at risk of institutionalization, then we will improve their mental health and social well being - thus increasing their quality of life and independence.

Our target populations are frail elderly seniors and individuals with disabilities who are: low income, at risk of institutionalization, mentally or physically disabled, immigrants, caught up in the issues surrounding welfare reform and are from ethnic populations. Currently 95% of the recipients of Meals on Wheels are frail, homebound and functionally disabled seniors and 65% of the program recipients are from low income and/or immigrant situations.

Last year alone more than 85,000 meals and wellness checks were provided to seniors in the Tri-City area.

Our Mission

To be a source of independence, dignity and voice for the social and economic needs of disabled and frail senior citizens in the Tri-City Area of Fremont, Newark and Union city.
