It’s A Great Day For A Drive!
Meals on Wheels Online Volunteer Drive
LIFE ElderCare, along with 250 other Meals on Wheels programs throughout the country, is participating in a month-long (June 1 - 30) online volunteer drive. You can sign up today to volunteer with us and join HUNDREDS of dedicated volunteers who keep Meals on Wheels rolling in Fremont, Newark, and Union City. When you do, you will help deliver nutritious meals, friendly visits and safety checks that help to keep millions of seniors nationwide – including 1000 right here in our community – living in their own homes, where they want to be.
We need friendly volunteers to deliver hot lunches to homebound seniors Monday – Friday, 10:30 am – 12:30 pm. Choose a day that works for you, and how frequently you want to volunteer (for example, weekly, every other week, or monthly). It’s easy to bring joy to a frail senior – one meal at a time!
Pledge to volunteer today! Call Tammy at (510) 574-2086, email tduran@fremont.gov, or sign-up online.

VIP Rides wins National Award!
On June 11, the National Volunteer Transportation Center, a program of the Community Transportation Association of America, announced the STAR Award winners and honorable mentions. The awards are intended to recognize outstanding volunteer transportation programs and enable winners to continue involving volunteer drivers to promote and promote transportation services. This year, 190 volunteer transportation programs from 30 states applied for a STAR Award. The Award winners were selected by a committee of nationally recognized experts in transportation, aging, and volunteerism; and were announced at the CTAA Community Transportation EXPO in St. Paul, Minnesota.

You did it. You bought your neighborhood Meals on Wheels a brand… new… truck!
Yes, we reached our goal. And thanks to so many of you, accomplished even more:
- We can now be a lot more sure that our seniors and disabled adults will get their hot noontime meals!
- LIFE ElderCare met the challenge and is officially enrolled in the Global Giving platform, giving us access to new fundraising opportunities.
- And we even came in 3rd of 145 projects worldwide in the challenge, earning us a $1000 bonus towards the truck.
- MORE THAN 200 OF YOU rallied around us to support some of our community’s most vulnerable residents. That’s a lot of love.
A special THANK YOU to:
- Alameda County Meals on Wheels, Linchuan Cheung, Dr. Dianne Martin, Newark Betterment Association, Sisters of the Holy Family, Patricia Snow, George Tidmarsh, and Linda Wasserman,
- BLOX Racing who has offered to paint our logo on the new truck,
- Pasta Pomodoro in Union City (If you haven’t tried their squash ravioli with brown butter, you have not lived),
- Fremont Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate - Rini and Hilda and her team are truly angels.
And don’t forget — each of you who donated gets to write your name inside the new truck! Watch for the PARTY invitation coming soon.
With much gratitude and a happy heart,
Patricia Osage, Executive Director
