Meals on Wheels

LIFE ElderCare's Meals on Wheels program addresses a growing concern that poor eating habits can endanger the health of older adults who can no longer shop or prepare their own meals. Our daily meal program provides good nutrition and a friendly check-in to assess the participant's health and emotional well-being. We are currently delivering 95,400 meals per year with the help of 250 volunteers.

Good nutrition plays an essential role in successful aging by lowering the risk of disease and disease-related disabilities and increasing mental and physical functioning. Some seniors, however, are missing out on these benefits because they are unable to shop for food, or they are unable to do their own cooking. These limiting factors frequently arise when a chronic illness prevents normal movement or when someone has recently been discharged from the hospital.

The program currently has seven dietary options: regular, vegetarian, renal, diabetic, soft, mechanical soft, and puree. All meals are low in sodium, cholesterol and fat.

All of our community volunteers are required to go through a background check before they start delivering meals as well as participate in an orientation on the program.
